about

“Scars Above”, the new single from The Winter Project’s upcoming fifth record, is a tale of pain and emotional turbulence redeemed. Stick with a relationship long enough and the scars earned along the way become tattoos of stamina and resolve, proudly displayed. Rarely does a song by The Winter Project end in a positive outcome, but this snappy 160 bpm rocker lands the listener in a place that feels like a well-worn pair of jeans: familiar, comfortable and rugged. It craftily brings together their punk roots with a blending of the Americana, alt country sounds that snuck into their most recent album, “Brighter Days’. The big, sing-along chorus of “Scars Above” will have listeners longing for the day when we’re back in clubs, singing along, fist pumping in air, enjoying our favorite bands.

The past year has seen an explosion in listeners for The Winter Project. Their last album “Brighter Days?”, released in 2019, saw their fanbase expand from New England, where they call Boston home, to a global audience. “Scars Above” was recorded at world-famous Q Division Studios in Somerville, MA, where so many classic records have been recorded by artists such as Dropkick Murphys, Paul Westerberg, Julina Hatfield, Buffalo Tom and The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones.

lyrics

Save that story, for when we’re older,
I might need the laugh more then.
Keep the good stuff, for when it’s colder,
Winter’s right around the bend.

Stay and talk, just a wee bit longer,
I’ve got nowhere to be right now.
For once in years, I’m feeling stronger,
I think you might have seen and how.

Take it slow, it’s clear that you know by now.
Save the show and tell, because it’s all getting brighter now.
We can walk as one, we can hold our heads up high.
Love these scars we’ve won, but it’s all getting brighter now.

It’s hard to tell where we’re going,
I just want the now not then.
So meet me at the corner of Going and Nowhere,
What you’ve torn may somehow mend.

Take it slow, it’s clear that you know by now.
Save the show and tell because it’s all getting brighter now.
We can walk as one, we can hold our heads up high.
Love these scars we’ve won, but it’s all getting brighter now.

Please don’t talk about what we’re missing,
There ain’t enough to go around.
And I miss less, of what I was wishing,
I just want what I have right now.

Take it slow, it’s clear that you know by now.
Save the show and tell because it’s all getting brighter now.
We can walk as one, we can hold our heads up high.
Love these scars we’ve won, but it’s all getting brighter now.
It’s all getting brighter now. It’s all getting brighter now.
